concept / feasibility

Every project has to establish the principles and boundaries of the brief. So, our first process is to sit down with the client, usual at the project site, and review the aspirations and demands. Following this we will develop a concept document, that will explore several options and ideas for the scheme. The final agreed option is usually a combination of these options, that are then worked up in more detail in the next phase of work. This stage must always be a dialogue between all parties and not a one side architectural affair. At the end of the day, it is the clients project and for them to enjoy after we have left!

planning

Where required, we will develop the concept document into a detailed set of drawings, incorporating plans, elevations, sections and images, which will be used to make a planning submission. Along with these drawn documents, we will produce a Design and Access Statement, to clarify the approach and evolution of the design. Depending on the complexity of the project, we may engage a planning consultant, and liaise with the planning authority prior to the submission. Once submitted, we will liaise with the local authority, to ensure the application has the best opportunity for success.

detailed design

Whether we have had to gain planning permission or are carrying out works that do not require planning, we will need to develop the design to a level that will allow the contractors to provide a detailed costing and procure the project. We will develop construction drawings, specifications and identify finishes with our client, consultants and the contractor / craftsmen. At this stage, we quite often will spend time at factories with the manufacturers or in showrooms, introducing our clients to products and materials. All of this ensures that when the materials and details come together on site, they are in line with our clients exacting demands and the exceptional details.

furniture

On many projects, due to their unique design nature, we will be required by the client to design and commission bespoke pieces of furniture. We will work closely with craftsmen to develop our design, in line with their manufacturing or construction processes, to produce a piece of furniture that compliments and enhances the overall scheme.

site

We will aid the client in the selection of a long list of appropriate contractors, suitable for the project works. This will then be reduced, following interviews, project visits and tender returns. Depending on the size of the project, we will get involved in the appointment documentation and the appropriate contract for all parties. Once on site, we will attend, to ensure the works are carried out to the appropriate standard, advise on claims for extra monies or extensions of time and client requests for design changes.

hospitality branding

For some clients, we have been invited to create a Brand from scratch or refresh an existing Brand. As Branding is quite an extensive piece of work, we will collaborate with numerous other consultants to achieve the clients end goal.
